Bernadette
Smith is
a singer/performer/comedienne who for 13 years was a member of
the family singing trio The Smith Sisters.
For two years she was the front person for the bush
band show, The Jolly Swagman, at the Argyle Tavern
(Sydney), singing and performing comedy.
Bernadette played for a year at the Bankstown Theatre
Restaurant in Dimboola and has worked extensively in
cabaret at Kinselas Sydney (Forbidden Broadway) and at Ducks
Crossing Café in Neutral Bay Sydney in Forbidden Melody,
Fractured Melody I, II & III and Excuse Me Girls with
Phill Stephens.
Bernadette
then performed with Anthony O’Keefe (Cats, Dames at Sea,
Forbidden Broadway) for a cabaret season before joining up with
Sydney actress/comedienne Helen O’Connor (Breakers, All
Saints, GP, White Collar Blue) to devise The Bombshells, a
comedy cabaret act featuring tongue-in-cheek impersonations of
Hollywood stars as well as some original characters.
They performed at the Glenn Street Theatre,
Parramatta Riverside Theatre, The Sydney Cabaret Convention and
then for five years for corporate audiences at conferences and
conventions around Australia through Celebrity Speakers
in Sydney.
In
2002 Bernadette moved with her husband Duncan Clarke to North
Queensland (Magnetic Island) and re-joined her ex singing
partner in crime Phill Stephens (who also moved north) to
produce and co-write a series of comedy cabaret shows as A
Broad with the Queen (Bernadette is the Broad….)
They
have performed in North Queensland to rave reviews and continue to do so at their very own venue Stage
Door Theatre Restaurant on Magnetic Island since 2005.
